Notes

Heritage is a big part of what makes us who we are. Previous generations were proud of it. But what will become of heritage in the future?

We value your heritage. Especially if you bring an example of it in form of food or drink to our next Firepit. (That was a hint).

See you at Firepit

Introduction

Heritage – those valuable and identifying characteristics of “our people” – are visible everywhere. Heritage exists in the passionate arguments of some people and the stoic behaviors of others. It even exists in architecture and craftsmanship, food and music. It is possibly one of the most valuable assets we enter life and adulthood with.

Do you live aware of your own heritage? What is it and what part of it do you most identify with?

UNESCO, which stands for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization was established in 1945 to promote human rights and preserve history and culture. There are thousands of named and protected UNESCO World Heritage sites, from Independence Hall in Philadelphia to Machu Picchu in Peru, which means you can actually take your kids.

What parts of your heritage did you (or do you want to) pass on to your kids? How did you (or do you) pass that on?

How can heritage survive alongside contemporary ideas of inclusion and diversity or will those water down the substance of heritage?
