Contemplation

Notes

In Firepit, there’s really no reason to feel stuck. Use the shared brainpower of the group to help you make a decision or help you off the fence. It’s what men do for each other almost better than anything else.

Guys,
Come ready to finish this sentence: “I am contemplating _____________.” The other men will ask questions and offer ideas. Take advantage of this…everyone will take it seriously. Choose something important to you.

See you at Firepit

Introduction

In 1985, social psychologist Daniel Wegner proposed a hypothesis called Transactive Memory, which explains how we access the memories of others to retrieve information. Here’s an example you can probably relate to. The reason you don’t have to remember your neighbor’s last name is because your wife knows it. The reason your wife doesn’t know how to make rib sauce is because you know. You have her and she has you, giving you access to each other’s memories.

Similar to this idea, Firepit lets us rely on each other’s experiences. When any one of us are faced with something, we have the ability to tap into the other men’s experiences and perspectives to see our situations through different lenses. In other words, being in this group makes you smarter.

You were each asked to finish the statement, “I am contemplating __________.”

One at a time, each man will finish the statement and let the other guys ask questions to get more details. Then the other guys will weigh in. “Do it, don’t do it, turn left, turn right;” whatever.

Who wants to go first?
